SEPTEMBER: THE BEST SEASON TO VISIT UMBRIA

September is one of best months to visit Italy, in particular Center-Italy.
In September, the hot of august ( in Italy temperatures could arrives to 32° - 40 ° C) is gone and the air refreshe; all activities re-starts after the summer vacancies: all stores are open, as all italian museums, art-churchs, monuments and others 'art operas'.
That thing is in the "Italian Dna" and stylife.
From the end of IInd WW, to only few years ago, all activities, as pubblic activities in the most part of italy stopped: from first days of July to end days of august; that thing apported very problems for the economy of tourism: Italy in '60's and '70's was the most visited Country in the Europe, now, we lose many places, and as You know, Italy could ( or must) live only with the tourism...
In september all schools "of order and grade" opened and millions of students starts to play them studies; school are very important beacuse the most part of students goes in pubblic shools; only a few 10% goes in private schools in Italy: just to few years ago pubblic school was good and all graduated were capables to make them works; now, also the quality is lower...
Italian school prepare students well in humanistic matters, but not in scientific.
Sciences as chemist or phisic could study only on the universities.. and that thing is very important to understand the italian culture, subjects as englih language or electronic programmer are considerated not importants only 10 years ago, and now we can see the 'cultural gap' between populations of Italy and Usa, for example: we know history, or geography, or philosophy well or very well, but we don't know other languages, or we don't know html, or problems from chemistry or others important scientific things that now, has big ecologial impact in the life of the people...
A very important event in september is the vintage.
For a Country knows in the Iron Age (11th century BC), from Greece Oenotria (or Enotria) ( the Country of vine ) being extended to refer to the entirety of Southern Italy ( and, after, all Italy) know by Greece at time,
Vintage was one of 'central social events', in these territories, 'Bacchanalias' played in these days; to thanks wine's God, Bacco, and others old paganic religious rites.
Vintage, starts at the second half of August in Sicily, and, time after time, in the rest of Italy vintage is later, of course, the 'time of the vintage' is regulated from clime and every year could be different from the last one.
In Umbria there are many kinds of wines and we wrote about two of most important - and goods - , two "D.O.C. Italian wines": Sagrantino di Montefalco and Orvieto Classico
In that period is very beautiful go by villages where there are wine's productions: the 'factories' can give to us the first wine's couples of the year... Very exciting!!

Eggi: asparagus, mushrooms and truffles

Eggi is a part of the municipality of Spoleto (PG), is located two kilometers from the Flaminia' steet ( one of oldest romain empire's streets), from Spoleto to 5 in the direction of Foligno, almost a cross between the Black Valley and Spoletana, framed by olive trees, towards the top of hills giving way to the maquis.
The low hills of Licini degrade into the basin of the Plains of Eggi. For a unique combination of natural and gattori situations created by man can be read today (1978) the complex environmental land Spoleto made by centuries of agricultural practice, the components and the physical limits of human-environment interaction, contradictions and social tensions, economic and administrative use and the program of land use.
The plain documented Eggi still agricolture the transition, which for centuries has marked the Spoletino, and the main activities that have shaped. The crop is represented by promiscuous survivors rectangular plots, which are still in rotation grasses and legumes, surrounded by rows of vines from the married, "system Tuscan" or the even more rare plots where the vine is ready to file in the orthogonal field, "Folignate system."
Eggi can to find the remains of the castle of the XIV century, with the triangular system. Entering the door to the square, right, of the fifteenth century frescoes representing talismatici and patron saints, including an S. Christopher large. At the top of the castle you can see a double door with two defense towers. Along the north side of the wall you can see the remains of the walkway for the troops, which remains the tax of the time.
Among the most important events in the country certainly one of "The asparagus festival" held in the name of culture and traditions of the territory, together with the production of products and dishes. During special events are offered, in taverns, Umbrian dishes revisited by a renowned Spoleto chef, Marco Lucentini, a base of asparagus and underwood products, including mushrooms and truffles ( the best italian traditional food, for me !! ).

Ancient Etruscan Ointment Discovered in Italy

CHIUSI: Italian archaeologists have discovered lotion that is over 2000 years old, left almost intact in the cosmetic case of an aristocratic Etruscan woman. The discovery, which occurred four years ago in a necropolis near the Tuscan town of Chiusi, has just been made public, following chemical analysis which identified the original compounds of the ancient ointment. The team reports their findings in the July issue of the Journal of Archaeological Science.
Dating to the second half of the second century B.C., the intact tomb was found sealed by a large terracotta tile. The site featured a red-purple painted inscription with the name of the deceased: Thana Presnti Plecunia Umranalisa.
"From the formula of the name, we learn that Thana Plecunia was the daughter of a lady named Umranei, a member of one of the most important aristocratic families of Chiusi," the researchers wrote.
Indeed, the wide rectangular niche tomb certainly represents the noble origins of the deceased.
The ashes of Thana rested in a small travertine urn (as You can see in the photo) , decorated with luxuriant foliate elements and the head of a female goddess, most likely the Etruscan Earth goddess Cel Ati.
