Eggi: asparagus, mushrooms and truffles

Eggi's symbol
Eggi is a part of the municipality of Spoleto (PG), is located two kilometers from the Flaminia' steet ( one of oldest romain empire's streets), from Spoleto to 5 in the direction of Foligno, almost a cross between the Black Valley and Spoletana, framed by olive trees, towards the top of hills giving way to the maquis.
The low hills of Licini degrade into the basin of the Plains of Eggi. For a unique combination of natural and gattori situations created by man can be read today (1978) the complex environmental land Spoleto made by centuries of agricultural practice, the components and the physical limits of human-environment interaction, contradictions and social tensions, economic and administrative use and the program of land use.
The plain documented Eggi still agricolture the transition, which for centuries has marked the Spoletino, and the main activities that have shaped. The crop is represented by promiscuous survivors rectangular plots, which are still in rotation grasses and legumes, surrounded by rows of vines from the married, "system Tuscan" or the even more rare plots where the vine is ready to file in the orthogonal field, "Folignate system."Eggi's paint
Eggi can to find the remains of the castle of the XIV century, with the triangular system. Entering the door to the square, right, of the fifteenth century frescoes representing talismatici and patron saints, including an S. Christopher large. At the top of the castle you can see a double door with two defense towers. Along the north side of the wall you can see the remains of the walkway for the troops, which remains the tax of the time.
Among the most important events in the country certainly one of "The asparagus festival" held in the name of culture and traditions of the territory, together with the production of products and dishes. During special events are offered, in taverns, Umbrian dishes revisited by a renowned Spoleto chef, Marco Lucentini, a base of asparagus and underwood products, including mushrooms and truffles ( the best italian traditional food, for me !! ).
